When terrorists bombed the Large Hadron Collider and turned a large piece of northern Europe into irradiated dust, they shocked and devastated the world… but they never dreamed they would also bring down the hard-fisted authority of an alien species.Until humanity stands trial for charges of malignant non-sentience, the Spo have complete control.
Following standard procedure, the Spo immediately conscripted over 300 children to go to their planet for training, a cadet system designed to make at least a few members of a primitive species able to stand witness for their race without screaming, fainting, or otherwise making fools of themselves in a galactic trial.
Nineteen year old Sam Locklear has been in the training program since he was twelve and now he’s on his way back to Los Angeles to work in the alien headquarters. He’s become one of their favorite cadets, and now he finally gets to find the line between being used, and using them. When Sam’s homecoming speech sets off a riot on Earth, he realizes he has more clout than he realized. But when his influence starts to backfire (hate crimes, mobs, and assassinations), Sam has to figure out how to calm things down before the trial.
If Sam can find the right leverage, he might be Earth’s best defense, but if he fails, he won’t get another chance.
